Gift Ideas: Making Flavored Spirits and Liqueur

December 9, 2010

Today’s gift idea is to make some flavored spirits and liqueur and give it as a gift. There are two parts one has to think about when giving liqueur as a gift – what kind, and how to present it.

I have a few posts on how to make liqueur, including liqueur making books, making jalapeño infused tequila, and making pear infused alcohol. So you really have to decide – do you want to make a pomegranate liqueur, something with cinnamon for the holiday, maybe the receiver really likes frangelico and you can make a hazel nut liqueur, or something else entirely?

The second part, presentation, can be almost as hard to think about. There are some neat looking bottles out there to store your product in to really show it off, so don’t just automatically reach for a empty wine bottle. Try looking at craft stores or thrift stores from something unique. Just make sure you can get it clean, and that it is food safe.
